Underage and selling their sexuality on the Web

We’ve all seen these stories. Isn’t there anything we can do???

  1. This is so sad. I agree, isn’t there anything we can do?

  2. First reaction: Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Second reaction: the “parents” in these cases aren’t really parenting. I’m not a mom, but if I had a pre-teen daughter, she would NOT wear a sexy bikini (or midriff tops, or low cut jeans, or or or…).

I wonder if some of it is also a result of early development? I’ve read some studies suggesting the age of first menarche (and all the other associated secondary sexual changes) is dropping partly because of increased nutrition, but also possibly partly because of estrogen like compounds in the environment.

So here are these girls, going through womanly changes, presumably with womanly urges along with them, and they’re still kids. Without good parental guidance, they make some really spectacularly bad choices….

I dunno. I was a slow developer in many ways. (Still played with dolls and stuffed animals at 12 and 13…) It horrifies me to think of 7 or 9 year olds dressing up “sexy” (and even knowing what that means). When I was 9, my only clothing worries revolved around when I got into trouble for getting my school clothes muddy from playing outside…

kids need to be kids. It really creeps me out to think of these girls doing this.

  3. Perhaps there needs to be an office connected with each state that looks in on child models to assure there isn’t anything gross going on? I know I’m asking a lot from our states, but the pending bill does sound vague. There needs to be someone NOT profiting from these girls to protect them. Those parents are sick.
