A trick for poison ivy
I’ve got poison ivy. I used to think I was immune but alas, I’ve got it on my arm and both my legs. Yowch. Very itchy. Here’s the trick and it works for mosquito bites, too. First off you need a microwave. Then you need an old sock. Then you need some rice. Pour a big bunch of rice into the sock. Tie the sock shut. Stick the sock in the microwave on high for 30 seconds to a minute. Now take it out and put it on the poison ivy (or mosquito bite or whatever) for as long as you can stand it. Don’t burn yourself but leave it there. You should get such an intense itching that you feel like clawing through your skin down to the bone. See, the heat is making your body release all of your histimines — the stuff that makes you itch. Once it’s released it all, you’ll have relief for a couple of hours or more. Really. It works.

The sock thing is weird. Did you know that we humans tend to get MORE sensitive to poison ivy the more times we are exposed to it? That’s why your skin reaction this time around might be worse than it was if/when you had it previously.
Dawn,
i have done this with hot water. Just spray hot water on the affected area for a long as you can stand it. It will itch like crazy but you will get relief for 2 to 4 hours.
i did this at summer camp every 4 hours for 6 days and it worked. normally i have to take prednisone, which is an amazing drug, click, like turning off a light switch. no itching. however cortisone has side effects long term.
i have had poison ivy at least 6 times. 3 times i had it on the right side of my forskin. i guess from petting the dog and taking a pee.
the hot water trick works and its available at the nearest faucet.
