What’s the worst piece of newborn baby advice you were ever given? Who gave it to you? Didja follow it? Why do you think it sucked? If you’ll let me quote you for ePregnancy, please make sure you leave your first/last name (pseudonyms welcome) and the age(s) of your child(ren). You can also email me at dawn@thiswomanswork.com

Thank you muchly!

  1. I only have a moment, so please don’t quote, but my worst parenting advice came from my mother-in-law. Her convictions about the “normalcy” of bottle-feeding were the primary reason I switched my oldest child from breast to bottle by the time he was six months old.

With my second baby, I had grown more stubborn and confident as a mother, and I *never* gave him a bottle or pacifier. I think it’s a shame when the older generation inflicts its parenting deficiencies upon new mothers.
