Happy Sukkot!

Today is the third day of Sukkot, the Jewish harvest festival.

We didn’t build our own sukkah, instead we visited a friend and Brett helped them build theirs. Noah helped decorate it and last night we went over there to eat dinner under it.

Noah’s first day of religious school was yesterday, too. He was very reluctant to go but his first words upon exiting the class were, “We had FUN!”

Sukkot is the holiday I remember best from my own Jewish preschool experience. We each brought in fruit to decorate the booth and then sat under it for snack and to tell stories. It felt great to celebrate it with my son.

On to less cheery religious things, I was surprised to read a comment under my spanking post from a bible thumper. Luckily, an apathetic crusader answered her for me. For those who believe in the “truth” of the bible, there are plenty of word studies online that “prove” spanking isn’t biblically sanctioned. Me, I don’t believe the bible is God’s word anyway so it’s a moot point. Duh.

Just had to say how much I liked reading this post - your comments on reclaiming the faith that makes sense to you and using history as a point to begin discussions - it just tied in so nicely with my own feelings that your beliefs need to be fully integrated with your life.

    Thanks.
